For many years, people have had numerous methods available to them in the hopes of achieving the gorgeous, healthy skin they deserve. One of these tried and true methods is a VI Peel. Boston residents can experience this effective service from Skin Deep Med Spa.
This procedure utilizes state-of-the-art technology to deliver results required for all skin types. With minimal discomfort and downtime, this method will quickly become one of your favorite beauty secrets.
This solution is essential for improving skin concerns such as acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and skin elasticity. It also helps even out your skin tone and improve your skin's natural texture.
A typical VI Peel treatment takes just 20 minutes and is suitable for all skin types. It starts with the application of a topical anesthetic cream to the skin, followed by a series of two to three chemical peels applied to the face, neck, décolletage, hands, or any other areas desired.
This is then “peeled” off with old dead skin, revealing smoother younger-looking skin and even-toned skin with a radiant glow. This process removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and stimulates new cell growth in their place.
Once the initial layer of the chemical peel is removed the new layer of fresh younger cells will appear four to seven days after treatment. The newly rejuvenated skin is ready to absorb vitamins and phytonutrients more readily giving it a healthy skin texture.
Not only is the color tone in your face revitalized; you look younger, healthier, and more vibrant. Chemical peels, but specifically the VI Peel, have been proven safe for all skin types and those with sensitive skin.
For aging skin, the VI Peel's rejuvenating formula works with the skin's chemistry to help condition and restore more radiant even-textured skin.
Typically, you should see results within 2-10 days after your first VI peel treatment. You may notice slight redness or swelling in your face and oily skin at first, but this should subside over the days following treatment.
Your skin should look and feel smoother and tighter as it heals, and your fine lines and wrinkles should begin to fade after about one month after your first treatment and continue to dissipate after numerous peels over the course of your discussed treatment plan.
You should see more dramatic results as treatments continue and new collagen is formed beneath the surface of your skin to reveal fresh skin instead of fine lines. Unwanted pigmentation changes and aging skin should also disappear over time.
The soothing, non-irritating chemical peels help replenish nutrients and encourage cellular turnover for younger-looking skin while delivering gentle skin resurfacing.
Treatment sessions utilize the varying strengths of each ingredient according to your needs, while optional booster treatments provide added benefits. With these proven anti-aging benefits, this formula can erase sun spots, skin discoloration, and age spots.
Chemical peels can be helpful for people whose acne scarring is moderate to severe and who also have deep-seated atrophic acne scars.
A chemical peel usually involves the application of a chemical solution that causes the outermost layer of skin to peel off over a few days or weeks, revealing new skin that appears improved. After a VI peel, acne scars may appear smoother and more even, especially after the skin fully heals from a VI chemical peel session.
There are many ways that chemical peels can help with acne symptoms, including:
An original VI Peel can treat hyperpigmentation or sun spots and thanks to a unique combination that prevents melanin from depositing into damaged skin cells, reducing the appearance of pigmentation and further production of these spots.
A VI Peel may improve your skin texture and improve signs of aging, sun damage, freckles, sagging skin, age spots, and blemishes. It uses a blend of ingredients that include salicylic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and phenol.
The TCA is absorbed by the upper layer of the skin, where it remodels the damaged areas and stimulates collagen production. The TCA also stimulates fibroblast cells to produce collagen and elastin (an elastic protein that provides skin with its structure and firmness).
Although the effects of peeling are mild and temporary, some people experience side effects such as:
The VI Peel does not always cause excess peeling. In a few cases, though, more than average peeling has been reported. Sometimes, this deeper peeling can lead to extended recovery times or possibly minor scarring at the deeper layers of skin where the peeling was most pronounced.
In most cases, patients report experiencing little to no pain from a VI Peel. However, some report higher than average pain, and this may be related to the person's sensitivity and pain tolerance or the dosage of anesthetic cream used during treatment.
Tylenol, which has negligible side effects and helps relieve any discomfort is recommended.
The VI Peel may cause some discoloration after treatment that coincides with the depth of pigmentation before treatment. This should only occur in patients with a medium to darker skin tones, oftentimes turning brown, black, purple, or red.
The discoloration can last up to 2-4 weeks for the initial cases to 1-3 months for severe cases. This is not abnormal and will resolve itself gradually.
Almost everyone will experience a mild burning or itching sensation after a VI Peel. These effects are usually mild and not long-lasting. However, if you find that your post-VI Peel treatment is more uncomfortable than expected or lasts for several days, contact your practitioner so that they can help relieve this discomfort.
After a VI Peel treatment, some patients will notice some temporary redness as a result of the treatment. This redness is believed to be caused by an inflammatory response from the target area that subsides within 48 hours.
Although VI Peels have some lightening effects due to the superficial changes in the epidermis, there are minimal risks involved. On rare occasions, a VI Peel can cause an overall darkening of the skin due to sun exposure after treatment. This can be combated using a bleaching cream if needed.
Be conscientious following your VI Peel. After a VI Peel procedure, it is advised not to expose the newly exposed skin to sunlight, as this may increase the risk of hyperpigmentation and further damage to the treated area.
Additionally, this new skin requires daily care as it can be sensitive for a few weeks following treatment.
It is not uncommon to experience swelling after a chemical peel. The swelling should go down as your skin heals, and you may notice your skin having a purplish or red color. This should fade as your skin continues to heal.
A VI peel is great for tightening pores but tends to leave your skin looking slightly dry due to the flaking of dead and unnecessary layers of skin being removed. Since the skin is dead, it is best to let it peel naturally and take care of the fresh skin exposed throughout this process.
After a VI Peel, your skin will be rough and feel irritated. Applying a moisturizer more than once a day is crucial to help the skin retain moisture and feel smooth and soft. With hyaluronic acid, the skin's moisture level is more effectively maintained.
After your VI Peel, you'll want to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and heal fast. You may also find that you sweat a lot, so avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks to keep from dehydrating.
VI Peel patients should avoid any direct sunlight for at least 30 days following the VI Peel, and should pay special attention to the area after engaging in activities such as jogging and heavier exercise that can cause sweating or perspiration.
This is because your skin will be sensitive to UV rays for two weeks, and there is even a risk for blistering which has a high potential for causing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Most new skin growth begins at three to five days but can take as much as nine days to begin. From there, the sloughing may continue for up to seven days. Do not force or pick off the new skin, allow it to shed naturally.
Once all the old skin (epidermis) has peeled off (usually around day 7), the new underlying layer will be smooth and even in color.
